Louise Butcher

Louise has specialised in Family Law throughout her career, qualifying as a Solicitor in December 2005. Louise is already highly respected in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire region joining Jones and Co in January 2024 and becoming the Head of the Family Department in January 2025. Louise has a wealth of experience and knowledge in all areas of Family Law including Divorce, Separation, Financial Issues and Children Matters. Louise has particular interest in complex private children cases, dealing with all aspects of arrangements for children following the breakdown of the relationship including internal and external relocation. Louise has experience advising modern families, to include advising extended family members with a particular skill in Domestic Abuse, Parental Alienation and Special Guardianship.
Louise has a wealth of knowledge in relation to complex and high net worth financial remedy matters, representing both husbands and wives particularly where there are business assets or farming entities.
Louise has extensive experience in sensitive cases involving substance and alcohol misuse and also cases where domestic abuse is a key feature. She has experience working with clients who have physical and mental disabilities and has worked closely with the Court of Protection for client’s who lacked capacity to provide instructions. Louise is well known for the passion and drive she brings to a case to achieve the best outcome for her clients. She has a sympathetic and compassionate approach and offers support throughout what can often be an extremely emotive time. Louise is a member of Resolution and attempts to work with clients to identify a constructive, sustainable and practical solution. She prides herself in being approachable and honest with her clients to manage expectations and provide proactive and balanced advice. Her sensitive and calming approach puts the clients at ease.
Louise previously qualified as a mediator which provides her with specialist skills in negotiating and adopting an amicable approach with a view to resolving issues in a cost-effective manner outside of the Court arena.
